Overview: “Questioning” is an approach that uses questions to drive learning. Rather than delivering all knowledge at once, the teacher poses carefully designed questions that guide students to observe, think, reason, and exchange perspectives with one another. In essence, questions become the “fuel” of the classroom, allowing students to internalize knowledge through the process of responding, probing further, and reflecting.
Description: Questioning is particularly well-suited to disciplines that emphasize critical thinking and comprehension, such as humanities and social sciences, education, general education, law, business management, and science literacy. In STEM and hands-on courses, it is also highly effective for guiding students to break down concepts, clarify misconceptions, and develop sound problem awareness. We encourage faculty to try incorporating questioning into their teaching. You’ll find that students become not only more engaged, but also more willing to actively explore knowledge.
