Overview: A “Distance Learning Course” is an online course conducted synchronously or asynchronously, enabling teachers and students to teach and learn without being in the same physical location. It is especially well-suited for theory-heavy, discussion-oriented, or cross-institutional and interdisciplinary courses, including general education, humanities and social sciences, information skills, management, and language courses, all of which can benefit from enhanced interaction and flexibility through digital tools. Distance learning also attracts students from other institutions, promotes resource sharing, and expands a course’s overall reach.
Description: In accordance with NCCU’s regulations, faculty applying for a “Distance Learning Course” should submit a course syllabus following the Ministry of Education’s curriculum plan during the announced application period. After departmental and college review, the syllabus is forwarded to the Center for Teaching and Learning Development (CTLD). Courses with an enrollment of 30 or more students are eligible for a teaching assistant subsidy. Each semester, courses are subject to external review, and outstanding courses are recognized and commended at the Academic Affairs Meeting. The university has established multiple smart classrooms designed for distance learning. Faculty are welcome to take advantage of the flexibility and resources that distance teaching offers to benefit more students!
