Overview: A “Micro-credit Course” is a flexible and diverse teaching format that allows instructors to deliver focused, intensive learning experiences in a compact timeframe. These courses can take many forms, digital courses, community engagement, interdisciplinary practice, guest lectures from industry professionals, and internship visits, making them ideal for practice-oriented, interdisciplinary, or skill-focused teaching contexts that benefit from industry perspectives. Every 3 hours of instruction earns 0.2 credits, with a maximum of 1 credit per course, and these hours are not counted toward a faculty member’s standard teaching load, making this a highly flexible course planning option.
Description: “Micro-credit Courses” are especially suitable for faculty who wish to experiment with new materials or methods, or who want students to quickly acquire a specific skill in a short period of time. At the beginning of each semester, CTLD announces a call for proposals. We sincerely invite you to transform your creativity and expertise into a compact, impactful course and help create more diverse learning opportunities for students!
Model Example: Prof. Chien-Ming Yang from the Department of Psychology applied his MOOC course “Sleep Psychology—The Psychology of One-Third of Your Life” as a Micro-credit Course, and it was warmly received by students. Take a look at his course content!
