To enhance teaching quality and strengthen TAs' instructional competence, National Chengchi University (NCCU) has established subsidy guidelines in accordance with the “Regulations for Implementing the Teaching Assistant System.” Subsidies are available to enrolled TAs approved by the Center for Teaching and Learning Development and the General Education Center, covering discussion classes, seminars, practical courses, and course management categories. The number of TAs allocated per course depends on class size and course type. Applications are reviewed by a dedicated committee appointed by the Office of Academic Affairs.
The application process varies based on the nature of the course:
For core general education courses, applications are handled by the General Education Center.
For Discussion (Type A), Seminar (Type B1), Practical (Type B2), and Course Management (Type C) courses, applications are processed by the Center for Teaching and Learning Development.
Review criteria include both quantitative indicators (e.g., syllabus availability online, enrollment numbers, teaching feedback) and qualitative potential for instructional improvement.
Responsibilities and Requirements for Instructors and TAs
(1) TAs for discussion and seminar courses must hold one 50-minute session per week (excluding the first week, midterms, and finals). TAs for practical courses should assist during class or hold separate practice sessions outside regular hours.
(2) First-time TAs must complete the TA orientation training at the start of the semester. Absentees must complete the make-up session on the designated platform within one month of appointment; otherwise, instructors must submit a written explanation.
(3) TAs must submit a midterm reflection and collaborate with the instructor on a final course report. Cases of plagiarism or misconduct in reflections will be reported, and the TA will be disqualified from future appointments.
(4) TAs are required to attend at least two teaching workshops or instructional outcome-sharing sessions per semester, organized or approved by the Center for Teaching and Learning Development or the General Education Center.
(5) TAs must cooperate with classroom observation activities arranged by either center.
(6) Instructors receiving TA subsidies for the first time must attend an information session on the TA system.
Assessment and Recognition for Discussion & Seminar TAs
(1) At least one classroom observation will be conducted each semester. TA teaching evaluations will be collected at midterm and end-of-semester.
(2) A final evaluation will be scored on a 5-point scale. Scores below 3 will affect future eligibility and require a written explanation from the course instructor.
(3) Post-semester reviews will assess the program's effectiveness based on TA feedback response rate, final evaluations, and overall implementation success—these will inform future funding decisions.
(4) Outstanding and Excellent TAs will be selected based on NCCU’s TA Recognition Guidelines and will receive commendations along with a certificate issued to their supervising instructor.
