Description of the Master’s and Doctoral Thesis Award Establishment

1. Purpose This award honors doctoral and master's graduates of National Chengchi University (NCCU), along with their academic advisors, for theses that demonstrate strong academic contribution and research potential. Established by the University Council in 2020 (Year 109 in the ROC calendar), the award aims to elevate research quality and recognize outstanding thesis achievements.

2. Eligibility Eligible candidates include doctoral and master’s degree recipients who graduated within two academic years prior to the award cycle, as well as their respective advisors. Nominations may be submitted by thesis advisors or members of the degree examination committee. Each college follows internal recommendation procedures, with nominations also open to students. A transparent review and selection process is carried out via the university’s system.

3. Selection Structure and Process The review committee consists of 11–13 members: the President (Chair), Vice President, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Dean of Research and Development serve as ex officio members, with 7–9 additional experts invited from colleges and external institutions. Each college selects high-quality theses with external review mechanisms and submits nominations to the Office of Academic Affairs. The nominated theses are evaluated by the committee. Annually, no more than 50% of the total number of awards may be given to doctoral and master’s theses per college recommendation. Awards may be withheld if no suitable candidates are found.

4. Required Documents and Format Nominations must include a nomination form, a recommendation letter (maximum 10 pages), a digital copy of the thesis, and proof of public authorization. Master’s nominees must also submit two printed copies and a digital certificate to ensure completeness of review.

5. Timeline and Information Session Nomination periods are announced at the beginning of each year (typically until mid-April). The university also hosts information sessions for advisors, assistants, and students to clarify application procedures and important notes.

6. Award Ceremony and Use of Results The award recipients are announced in the second half of the academic year. The award ceremony is typically held at the university administration building. Both the thesis author and advisor will receive a certificate and recognition. These achievements can support faculty promotion, résumé development, and academic evaluations.

Important Notes

Theses that have received other forms of funding or awards may still be nominated. Nominated theses must be publicly authorized in advance and not under confidentiality or ongoing review. All college-submitted materials must adhere to NCCU’s formatting and page limit guidelines.
